About the Face Anonymizer

What is the Free AI Face Anonymizer?

The Face Anonymizer is a free, browser-based privacy tool designed to automatically detect and blur faces in your photographs. Unlike traditional photo editing software or online tools that require you to upload your personal images to a remote server, this tool operates entirely on your own device. Powered by TensorFlow.js and the BlazeFace machine learning model, the artificial intelligence processes the image data directly within your web browser. This ensures that your sensitive photos never leave your computer, guaranteeing 100% data privacy and security.

How to Blur or Censor Faces in Photos

Using the tool is incredibly quick and intuitive:

  1. Upload your image: Drag and drop your photo into the designated zone or click to browse your files. Supported formats include JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF.
  2. Automatic Detection: Once loaded, the on-device AI instantly scans the image and pinpoints recognized human faces.
  3. Choose your Redaction Style: Select how you want to hide the faces. You can apply a smooth Gaussian-style "Blur", a retro "Pixelate" effect, a solid "Black box", or playfully cover faces with an "Emoji".
  4. Fine-tune the Results: Use the "Intensity" slider to increase or decrease the strength of the blur or pixelation. The "Padding" slider allows you to expand the redacted area to cover more of the head or hair.
  5. Download: Click the "Download" button to save the newly anonymized image directly to your device.

Why Use a Client-Side Privacy Tool?

In an era of widespread facial recognition and data scraping, protecting the identities of people in your photographs is more important than ever. Whether you are a journalist protecting a confidential source, a teacher sharing classroom photos without revealing student identities, or simply a social media user respecting the privacy of bystanders in the background of your shots, redacting faces is a vital step. By performing the computer vision tasks locally via JavaScript, you eliminate the risk of your images being intercepted, stored, or misused by third-party servers.
