About the Compound Interest Calculator

What is the Compound Interest Calculator?

The Compound Interest Calculator is a free, comprehensive financial modeling tool designed to help you visualize how your investments and savings grow over time. Often referred to as the "eighth wonder of the world," compound interest is the process where the interest you earn on your initial investment begins to earn interest on itself. This tool allows you to project that exponential growth by generating a detailed, year-by-year amortization table and an interactive visual growth chart. Best of all, it runs entirely client-side, meaning your financial figures are never uploaded, stored, or tracked on an external server.

How to Use the Investment Calculator

To get an accurate projection of your financial future, fill in the following parameters:

  • Principal: The initial amount of money you are starting with (e.g., your current savings or the initial deposit into an investment account).
  • Annual Interest Rate: The estimated yearly return on your investment. For savings accounts, this might be 4-5%, while historical stock market returns average around 7-10%.
  • Compounding Period: How frequently the interest is applied to your balance. The more frequently it compounds (e.g., Daily or Monthly vs. Annually), the faster your money grows.
  • Duration (Years): The total length of time you plan to leave the money invested to grow.
  • Monthly Contribution: Any additional money you plan to deposit into the account at the end of each month. Consistent contributions heavily accelerate compound growth.

Understanding the Amortization Data

As you adjust the input parameters, the tool instantly recalculates your future wealth. The Summary Cards provide a quick snapshot of your Final Balance, Total Invested Capital, Total Interest Earned, and your Money Multiplier (how many times your initial investment multiplied).

Scroll down to the Interactive Growth Chart to see a visual separation between the money you put in (Principal + Contributions) and the money your money made for you (Interest Earned). Finally, the Year-by-Year Breakdown table acts as an amortization schedule, allowing you to audit your wealth creation at every milestone. You can even export this table directly to a CSV file for further analysis in Excel or Google Sheets.

100% Private Financial Planning

Personal finance is sensitive. Many online calculators secretly track your inputs for marketing or ad-targeting purposes. This calculator uses modern web technologies to process the complex JavaScript math locally within your browser. Because there are no backend databases or server round-trips, you get instant, zero-latency calculations with absolute privacy and data security.
